Island Key Co-operative Childcare and Community Service is part of Dublin City Co-operative.
We offer childcare places for babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers as well as an after-school service. We work with children aged between 1 year and 12 years.
We understand the importance of working with families, so we aim to involve them in every aspect of their child's care. We meet regularly with our parents to give feedback and to share ideas, and to set goals for the children. We have a parents’ room that parents are encouraged to use to chat with one another, to have tea/coffee, and to read any of our leaflets/documents that are available for all. We understand the vast amount of knowledge and skills every parent has and we aim to utilise this through parents’ meetings, coffee mornings or parenting courses.
The service supports a parent and toddler group that runs every Wednesday morning in Island Key Co-operative. This service is run by the parents and offers a great opportunity to meet with other parents from the local area.
The High/Scope Curriculum is implemented throughout the various services including baby care and after-school. High Scope is based on active learning, which means the child is learning for him or herself, solving problems and exploring. A daily routine is in place that is flexible to each child's needs and provides the child with opportunities to make decisions for themselves and to work in both large and small groups. The curriculum has many benefits for the child including: opportunities to explore real life materials, to learn for oneself and to form own opinions and thoughts, to gain self-confidence, to develop skills of independence.
We are always looking to improve our service and we encourage parents to become involved in running and shaping our service. Our aim is to work in partnership with parents and children to provide the highest possible standard of care.
