"I never thought I was going to get a house, especially not a brand new one."

July 11, 2022

I’ve been here almost three months.  I have family close by, my son is in town, I have sisters in Killurin, and town.

I couldn’t wait to get into my new home of course, because it’s so different, I couldn’t believe the brightness in it the day we met Jane here to see it. The house I was renting beforehand was an old house, it was small, with few windows. There was only one room that was in anyway bright, but here the brightness is just flowing through. I lived on a busy road but it’s so lovely and quiet here, it’s the complete opposite. I was never a fan of moving into estates but now that I moved into this one, I’m as happy as Larry! It’s a complete change, but a change for the good! I thought I’d be in the other house until I was carried out in a box. I couldn’t believe it when I got word from CHI and I thought “Oh yeah, I’ll still be waiting quite a few months”, but within in a couple of weeks I had moved in! I couldn’t believe it. I met Jane, the Housing Officer, on 6th April, got the keys on 8th, was toing and froing sorting my belongings out and moved in on 23rd April. It’s brilliant. CHI seem to sort out things really quickly. If you have any trouble, contact Jane, or the office. There’s no hassle. Everyone is lovely.

I had been renting about thirteen years. I was a long time on the housing list. I never thought I was going to get a house, especially not a brand new one. I thought I’d be lucky enough to get one in a council estate someone had moved out of, but I couldn't believe it when I saw this. My sister came with me the day I came to see it and said, ‘If you don’t take it, I will!’.

I found it a big help that the painting was already done, it helped speed up the time it took to move in and saved the expense as well. With the kitchen in, the painting done, and the bathroom done, it was a big help with regards to expense and time getting in like. Then a fella who is married to a niece of mine did the flooring for us.

It's nice that it’s a small community because you know everyone who is coming and going. Whereas housing estates I used to visit in the past, you didn’t know who was coming or who was going.

I’m most looking forward to enjoying weather like we’ve had recently in my new home! I had a BBQ out the back the last couple of evenings, and the back yard. The direction the houses face is brilliant because you have sun for most of the day.
