A year and a half of creativity and collaboration came together at Crofters Quarter this weekend with the launch of a new community mural.

The project was shaped from the beginning by the children and residents of Crofters Quarter. Through workshops and creative sessions, they shared their hopes, wishes and ideas for their community, which became the inspiration for the finished artwork.

Artist Kayde M brought those ideas to life in a mural that reflects the creativity and voices of the children who call Crofters Quarter home.

Paula Bradshaw from the Resident's Association said;

"The residents in Crofters Quarter wanted to make the lobby a brighter, warmer and autism friendly space. The space had felt very empty and clinical and needed something to add energy. The resident's association brought the idea to Ciara from Co-operative Housing Ireland, that we wanted to create a better atmosphere in the building. Ciara set up an art project for the children in our community which helped to prove that we really needed some artwork on our walls. The children had a meeting with the artist in the local library and ran with their idea of a mural. They gave all their input and wishes for the project. Ciara and the Residents Association proceeded to work on the project from that point. Ciara's encouragement and support has been vital for this huge project to reach its goal.

The mural has had a very positive impact with the residents in our community. It involved the children which in turn involved the parents and other members of the community. It was a great focal talking point for everyone.

The day of the official unveiling was a magnificent success. It brought so many residents together to celebrate the wonderful artwork in our building. It was such a positive and powerful community experience."
