New Guide Highlights Pathways to Advancing Net-Zero in Social Housing
A new report from The Housing Alliance explores practical solutions to support the transition to net-zero carbon in Ireland’s social housing sector.
The report, “A Guide on Innovative Solutions to Advancing Net-Zero Carbon in Social Housing”, brings together research, guidance and recommendations to support Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) in reducing emissions and improving energy performance across housing developments.
The Housing Alliance is a collaboration of seven of Ireland’s largest Approved Housing Bodies, working together to strengthen the role of the sector in delivering high-quality homes while supporting national policy priorities.
With more than 67,000 homes managed by AHBs across Ireland, the sector plays an important role in supporting Ireland’s climate ambitions. The guide highlights practical steps housing providers can take to advance decarbonisation, including improved building standards, energy-efficient design, retrofit programmes and the adoption of innovative technologies.
The report also emphasises the importance of engaging with residents as part of the transition to more sustainable housing. Clear communication and support can help ensure that new technologies and energy-efficient systems are used effectively and deliver long-term benefits for residents.
The guide also includes practical checklists and resources to support housing providers at different stages of their decarbonisation journey.
As a member of The Housing Alliance, Co-operative Housing Ireland is committed to working collaboratively with partners across the sector to support sustainable housing solutions and contribute to Ireland’s climate objectives.
