Co-operative Housing Ireland marks delivery of 56 new homes at Altidore Gardens, Wicklow

Co-operative Housing Ireland has officially marked the delivery of 56 new social homes at Altidore Gardens in Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow.

The event was attended by Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Melanie Corrigan, An Tánaiste Simon Harris TD, and Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, alongside representatives from the Department of Housing, Wicklow County Council, D/RES Properties, local community groups and Co-operative Housing Ireland staff.

Supporting people to live in their own communities

The homes at Altidore Gardens provide high-quality, secure accommodation for individuals and families in North Wicklow, an area where housing demand remains high.

For many of the people moving into these homes, the development offers the opportunity to remain in their own communities — close to family, schools, employment and support networks. Being able to stay local is a key part of maintaining stability, connection and support, particularly for families and individuals who have long-standing ties to the area.

For Gavin and Shannon, who both grew up locally, this was essential.

“Everything we know is here — our families, our friends, childcare and schools. Being able to stay in Wicklow means we still have that support around us. That’s something you can’t put a value on.”

After spending time living between family homes while trying to get established, having a secure home of their own has given them stability and a strong foundation for the future.

High-quality, energy-efficient and inclusive homes

The development comprises 56 homes across two apartment blocks, including 32 two-bedroom and 24 three-bedroom homes.

All homes achieve an A2 Building Energy Rating (BER) and are equipped with air-to-water heat pump systems, helping to reduce energy costs for residents while supporting more sustainable living.

Eight homes have been delivered to a universally designed standard, supporting independent living for people of all abilities and reflecting Co-operative Housing Ireland’s commitment to inclusive housing.

For Member Tenant Josephine McDonald, her new home has been life-changing following a serious accident that significantly impacted her mobility and independence.

“Having a home that is designed for my needs means I can live independently and with confidence. It gives me comfort and security, and it truly feels like my home. It has been life-changing.”

Delivering homes at scale in Wicklow and nationwide

This latest development brings the number of homes delivered by Co-operative Housing Ireland in Wicklow to over 460, with further homes planned across the county in 2026.

Nationally, Co-operative Housing Ireland supports nearly 18,000 people and continues to deliver homes at scale in partnership with local authorities and the Department of Housing.

Strong partnerships delivering lasting impact

Altidore Gardens has been delivered in partnership with Wicklow County Council, the Department of Housing, the Housing Agency and D/RES Properties.

The development forms part of the continued growth of Newtownmountkennedy, with access to local amenities, services and strong transport links, supporting sustainable and connected communities.

Building communities, not just homes

Housing developments like Altidore Gardens represent more than the delivery of new homes. They mark the beginning of a new chapter for the individuals and families who will live there.

Co-operative Housing Ireland remains committed to working with partners to deliver high-quality, secure homes and to support thriving communities across Wicklow and beyond.
