Co-operative Housing Ireland Welcomes additional €696 Million Government Investment in Housing for 2025
July 30, 2025

Co-operative Housing Ireland (CHI) welcomes the announcement by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, of an additional €696 million in capital funding for housing in 2025.
This investment will support the delivery of over 4,600 social and affordable homes, including more than 3,700 new-build homes.
Funding will increase the likelihood of reaching the target of 12,000 new social-rental homes in 2025 and will also go toward bringing vacant properties back into use, preventing homelessness, and supporting homeowners under the Enhanced Defective Concrete Block Remediation Scheme.
As Ireland’s national representative body for the co-operative housing movement and a large approved housing body providing over 6,000 homes, CHI plays a vital role in meeting housing needs and strengthening communities across the country.
Quote from Kieron Brennan:
“This is a welcome and timely investment and will hopefully speed up delivery of much needed homes. The additional €696 million will support not just new builds, but also bring vacant homes back into use and protecting vulnerable households. Co-operative Housing Ireland ready to play our part in delivering secure, affordable homes in communities across the country.”
We now look forward to seeing the detailed breakdown of this funding and how it will be allocated across the sector. Real delivery depends not just on headline figures, but on clear and sustained commitment to the organisations building these homes on the ground. We look forward to working with Government, local authorities and sector partners to help translate this funding into meaningful housing delivery.
